Philosophy

Our teaching philosophy emphasizes independence and curiosity and a love of learning—children learn at their own pace under the guidance of a qualified Montessori teacher in a home environment with materials specially designed to stimulate their progress and build their confidence.

Practical Life - Through Practical Life exercises children learn to care for themselves, one another and their environment.

Sensorial - Sensorial activities provide specific opportunities to explore, order, broaden, and refine sense perceptions.

Mathematics -Math and manipulative materials allow exciting concrete experience with number concepts and operations.

Language Arts -Language exercises nourish the children's vocabulary, enhance self-expression, and develop reading, writing, and listening skills.

Culture - Cultural subjects including Science, Geography, Art, and Music deepen the children's awareness of the world around them.

(No subject is taught in isolation as the curriculum is interwoven).

Daily Schedule (may change order slightly as our goal is to follow the lead of the child).

Individual and small group presentations occur spontaneously.

Snack Time (a practical life continuation of the work period)
• Children choose and prepare a snack from a variety of options. They set their spot at the table and clean-up when done. Snack is provided by Steinbach Montessori.

Classroom Routines

Students are welcomed to class each day, and shake a teacher’s hand. We finish our session with the same ritual, a handshake (or hug) and thank you for the real work your child has done.
Lessons in “grace and courtesy” are the cornerstone of the Montessori method.

Location

Steinbach Montessori is located in the heart of Steinbach, Manitoba. Programs take place in our cozy Victorian style heritage home using authentic Montessori equipment.

Birthdays

It is the philosophy of Steinbach Montessori to honor each child at on the occasion of his/her birthday.

Note: You may send cake, cookies, napkins and a beverage if you'd like. We ask that you do not send party favors, gifts, balloons, games, etc. You may instead elect to send a special book, plant, or donation of Montessori materials for the class. This is a way the child can share with the class and honor his/her birthday. If you are planning a party for your child, please hand out invitations outside of the school. The teacher cannot be responsible for handing out invitations. Children are sometimes disappointed when they are not invited or the invitation has been misplaced, etc.

• Certified Montessori Teacher (July 28th, 2009)
• Independent Certified Baby Signs® Instructor since 2005
• Certified Early Childhood Educator Trainer for Implementing the Baby Signs® Program
• “Non-Violent Crisis Intervention” training
• “Handwriting without tears” workshop
• Clear criminal record check and child abuse registry check
• Worked as a nanny, educational assistant and special needs care provider prior to my educational training.
